After the Civil War, the United States became a much more industrialized society. Between 1865 and 1920, industrialization improved American life in many ways. However, industrialization also created problems for American society. Consider events that took place after the Civil War and discuss ways that industrialization affected the U.S. between 1865 and 1920.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:

Introduce your paper with your previously crafted thesis statement.
Discuss three (3) major aspects of industrialization between 1865 and 1920. In your response, consider society, the economy, and politics.
Identify three (3) specific groups that were affected by industrialization and provide two examples for each group describing how the group was affected. (Consider issues such as race, ethnicity, gender, child labor, etc.)
Summarize how industrialization affected the life of the average working American during this period. Use specific examples and details.
Use at least three (3) academic references besides or in addition to the textbook. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Running head: INDUSTRAILIZATION AFTER THE CIVIL WAR

Industrialization brought about several different changes ensuing the Civil War. It had
major influences on society, the economy, and politics mostly. Some of the changes that were
brought about occurred out reaction to other initial advancements that led the way. In example,
consider how the economic feud between the North and South aligned with political feud they
were also involved in. I believe its safe to say society as a whole started getting more relaxed,
once the economy started to come back strong, it was a lot of competition for jobs on the market
due to the increasing number of immigrants coming to the United States to work.
The major changes of that came with industrialization during 1865 and 1920 that helped
shape the U.S. society, economy, and politics are immigration, entrepreneurship, and also the
freeing of slaves. After the Civil War, entrepreneurship in the United States reached higher
altitudes. The success of our economy allowed more citizens to become small business owners,
which many businesses also had a need for. The United States offered a place where you can be
successful after the civil war; citizens and immigrants both had great chances. During this time
Europe was so overpopulated. They held very little jobs for their people; so many Europeans
started immigrating to the United States by the thousands, which included the Irish, German and
English citizens. At the time, factories in the United States had low pay but this was even
acceptable by the immigrants. In return, America received a proper economic boost because
industries were booming and making tons of money an paying cheap labor cost. It affected
society because Americans felt threatened by immigration; Europeans were essentially taking
American jobs, the jobs Americans didnt want to do because they didnt pay enough. The
freeing of slaves also brought about change in the American society and the economy. They
were also being worked into society just like the Europeans were, and posed a threat to white

Americans. Blacks were also all about hunting for work, and owners knew that the ex-slaves
would also work for cheap.
The Five society groups that were affected by industrialization were women, children,
families, European immigrants, and African Americans. Women and children were both workers
of long exhausting days that affected them negatively. For very little compensation, and the poor
living conditions they were put under enormous amounts of stress. Families were separated, and
children were taken and forced to work in factory buildings. Women were also separated from
the family. This actions were also bestowed upon our immigrants of the times.. African
Americans were trying to find their place in society after being freed. Many were purposely mad
to be illiterate, so they faced hard living conditions and little work while they fought off racism
from whites during their day-to-day lives.
Industrialization after the Civil War had huge impact on American culture and our
society. Our Forefathers faced immigration, which forced them to accept European and Asians
into their society. Our citizens had competition from immigrants who did the same jobs at much
lower rates. The increasing number of factories and corporations stealing away their customers
hit small business owners hard. Our economy was on the move and man people left the farms to
head for the big city. Which more than likely caused some troubles like overcrowding and
disease. There was a positive aspect of industrialization, for the average working American
during this period is the increase of tools, such as the creation of the reaper by Cyrus
McCormick, which allowed farmers to harvest grain quicker and cheaper paid off big time.
Farmers made tons of easy money without the stress of finishing the project step by step
